CHARITY
Just as our legendary namesake was known for his dedication to community service as both a special constable and Vancouver’s first official lifeguard over a century ago, we strive to carry on Joe’s tradition by showing our appreciation to the community that has supported us since 1985. To date we have lent our support in time, money and services to help raise $2,000,000 for charitable organizations. Joe Fortes Seafood & Chop House aims to raise $50,000 annually for local causes and currently supports the following charities:
SNACKS FOR KIDS
Vancouver Firefighters Charitable Society feels that no child should go hungry at school. With this in mind, the VFCS is partnering with the Vancouver School Board (VSB) to develop a school snack program. These snacks will go to those children who are not having their nutritional needs met at home or by other support services. The snacks are distributed discreetly through an accessible distribution system that allows the recipient to participate anonymously without fear of humiliation or being judged by peers. BC FIREFIGHTERS BURN FUND
The Burn Fund provides life saving, life supporting, and life enriching services to the people in British Columbia. More than 3,700 professional fire fighters in BC dedicate and donate their time and skills to support burn survivors and increase the public’s knowledge about fire and burn safety issues through the work the Burn Fund does with its Burn Awareness, Research and Prevention Programs. PACIFIC SALMON FOUNDATION
Pacific Salmon Foundation continues to raise funds and direct funding to grassroots, volunteer and community-driven projects focused on the conservation and recovery of Pacific salmon. PSF supports research and science, then integrates this knowledge into program plans at the community and watershed level. PSF works with First Nations, private companies, educational institutions, non-profit groups, all levels of government, and commercial and recreational anglers to bring salmon back to our streams. DINING OUT FOR LIFE
Dining Out for Life supports two charities – A Loving Spoonful and Friends For life. A Loving Spoonful provides free, nutritious meals to men, women and children living with HIV/AIDS in Greater Vancouver and the surrounding areas. In the last year alone, A Loving Spoonful has provided over 100,000 meals to those who need it most. Meals are delivered weekly by a team of dedicated volunteers. Friends For Life supports people living with life-threatening illnesses such as HIV/AIDS, their families and their caregivers. This leading wellness centre was formed with the belief that no-one should face a serious illness alone, and offers a broad range of complementary and integrative therapies aimed at shifting the focus from illness to wellness. Programs include massage/body work, yoga, Naturopathic and Traditional Chinese Medicine, a nutrition/meals program and care for individuals confined to their homes.
